About the Canadian County Jail

The Canadian County Detention Center, also known as the Canadian County Jail, is a county detention facility in El Reno, Oklahoma. The Canadian County Sheriff’s Office operates the facility under Sheriff Chris West, and Major Kristie Carter serves as Jail Administrator.

The jail has an official capacity of 194 beds and an average daily population of approximately 300 people. Interlocal housing is used when the number of people in custody exceeds the facility’s available space.

The facility houses pretrial detainees, people serving county sentences, and sentenced individuals awaiting transfer to the Oklahoma Department of Corrections. These individuals remain in a locally operated county facility while awaiting any confirmed state transfer.

How the Canadian County Inmate Search Works

The roster at the top of this page is the Canadian County inmate search tool. It is synced directly from official booking data and can be searched by name or reviewed as a chronological list of current bookings.

Available records may display:

  • Booking photo
  • Full legal name
  • Booking number
  • Booking date and time
  • Sex and race
  • Reported city and state of residence
  • Charges or holds
  • Arresting agency
  • Bond amount
  • Release date, time, and reason when applicable

The roster also provides views for current inmates, recent bookings, and individuals released during the previous 72 hours.

Booking information reflects the information entered when a person is received into custody. Initial booking charges may differ from charges later filed by the District Attorney. A listed charge, hold, arrest, or booking photo is not proof of guilt or a conviction.

The Canadian County Sheriff’s Office cautions that roster information may contain errors. Confirm current custody, bond, charge, case-number, transfer, and release information directly with the jail before traveling, posting bond, or making release arrangements.

The roster is separate from the Oklahoma State Courts Network, or OSCN. The roster shows booking and physical custody information, while OSCN provides public court-case information such as filed charges, docket entries, scheduled hearings, and case outcomes. OSCN is not an inmate roster.

The county custody system is also integrated with OK VINE, an informational notification resource. OK VINE is separate from the live roster and court records and does not replace confirmation from the jail or an official court notice.

The Canadian County Sheriff’s Office Open Records Division handles requests for existing records maintained by the agency. Requests must identify specific search terms and date ranges. Completed records must be picked up in person and are not delivered by mail, email, or fax.

Posting Bond at Canadian County Jail

The court sets the bond amount, authorized bond type, and release conditions, not the jail. Before attempting to post bond, call the Canadian County Jail at (405) 422-3188 and confirm the person’s full name, current custody status, case number, bond amount, and accepted bond type.

Cash Bonds

Cash bonds are paid to the Cost Administration Department of the Canadian County District Court Clerk’s Office:

Canadian County Judicial Building
301 N. Choctaw Avenue
El Reno, OK 73036

The Court Clerk’s Office is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Cash bonds must be submitted before 3:30 p.m., and financial transactions close at 4:15 p.m.

Only physical cash is accepted. Cashier’s checks, money orders, credit cards, and debit cards are not accepted for cash bonds. Cash bonds cannot be posted after business hours or on weekends.

Surety Bonds

A surety bond may be submitted at the Canadian County Detention Center, 304 N. Evans in El Reno. The transaction must be handled by a bail bond agent who is licensed by the Oklahoma Insurance Department and registered with the Canadian County District Court Clerk.

Registered agents may submit surety bonds at the jail outside regular Court Clerk hours, including nights and weekends. The Canadian County Sheriff’s Office maintains an approved bondsman list.

Do not send money in response to an unsolicited telephone call demanding a remote transfer or electronic-monitoring fee. Confirm any payment request directly with the jail, Court Clerk, or identified bond agent.

Sending Money to an Inmate

Prodigy Solutions is the confirmed inmate deposit and commissary provider for the Canadian County Detention Center. Deposits may be made through the Prodigy system or at the lobby kiosk located at 304 N. Evans in El Reno.

The lobby kiosk accepts cash, credit cards, and debit cards.

Do not mail cash, personal checks, cashier’s checks, or money orders to an inmate. These payment forms are rejected when sent through inmate mail. Official institutional checks from another law enforcement or correctional agency are the confirmed exception.

Any balance remaining in an inmate’s account at release is returned only to the inmate.

Commissary deposits and bond payments are separate transactions. Cash bonds are paid through the Canadian County District Court Clerk’s Cost Administration Department, while surety bonds are handled by an authorized bail bond agent.

Inmate Communication

Electronic messages and nonprivileged correspondence are delivered digitally through Prodigy Correctional Services. Inmates view electronic messages and scanned mail through Prodigy kiosks in their housing areas.

Address regular inmate mail as follows:

Canadian County Jail
Inmate’s Name and PID Number
304 N. Evans
El Reno, OK 73036

Nonprivileged physical mail is processed electronically for delivery through the kiosks. The physical originals are not returned to the sender.

Permitted mail includes:

  • Standard letters
  • Single-layer greeting cards
  • No more than three photographs per envelope
  • Photographs no larger than 4 by 6 inches
  • Up to two paperback books per month sent directly by a publisher or reputable online distributor
  • Approved publications
  • Legal mail

Prohibited mail includes:

  • Cash, personal checks, cashier’s checks, or money orders
  • Perfume or lipstick
  • Staples or paper clips
  • Stickers, stamps, blank paper, or blank envelopes
  • Laminated, plastic, musical, or multilayer cards
  • Newspaper or magazine clippings
  • Polaroid photographs
  • Internet printouts
  • More than three photographs per envelope
  • Photographs larger than 4 by 6 inches
  • Images showing nudity, weapons, alcohol, tobacco, or illegal activity
  • Cards larger than 8 by 11 inches
  • Other items larger than 8½ by 14 inches
  • Unapproved mail from a person held in the Canadian County Jail during the previous six months

Legal mail is exempt from electronic kiosk processing. It is physically inspected under the facility’s legal-mail confidentiality procedures.

The confirmed information does not identify the current inmate telephone provider or incoming-call rules. Call the jail at (405) 422-3188 to confirm the current provider, account setup instructions, and whether inmates can receive phone messages or only place outgoing calls.

Visitation at Canadian County Jail

Remote video visitation is available through Prodigy Correctional Services. Visitors must create a Prodigy account, and access is subject to the facility’s daily operational restrictions. Prodigy visitor support is available at 866-700-4545.

Call the jail at (405) 422-3188 before planning a visit to confirm the current schedule and whether the inmate is eligible to receive visitors.

Visitor rules include:

  • Visitors must be at least 18 years old unless accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
  • Miniskirts, halter tops, excessively short shorts, see-through clothing, and swimwear are prohibited.
  • A dress-code violation may result in a visit being denied or ended and may lead to a visitation restriction.
  • A person held in the Canadian County Jail during the previous six months cannot visit unless the Jail Administrator grants an exception.
  • A special family visit for someone traveling from outside Oklahoma requires at least 24 hours’ advance notice to the Jail Administrator.

Attorney visits must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance by calling (405) 295-6216 or (405) 434-2829. A registered attorney must present valid photo identification and an Oklahoma Bar Association membership card. A law-office representative must provide authorization on the law firm’s letterhead.

Attorney visits are not recorded, are conducted without a physical barrier, and take place outside staff hearing range. Attorney document bags are subject to a security search.

Canadian County Court Information

State criminal cases in Canadian County are heard in the Canadian County District Court, Oklahoma’s general-jurisdiction trial court for the county. Holly Eaton serves as Court Clerk.

The Oklahoma State Courts Network is the primary confirmed online court-record resource for Canadian County. OSCN supports searches by party name or case number and allows users to select Canadian County or search across participating Oklahoma courts.

Available case information may include:

  • Case status
  • Scheduled hearings
  • Party information
  • Docket entries
  • Downloadable PDF images of available filings from 1994 forward

Public court calendars and dockets may be reviewed through OSCN’s court-docket search or through notices posted at the courthouse. Telephone record searches are not available. A record search requested by mail is subject to a $5 search fee.

Records from before 1994 are generally not available through OSCN and may require a manual search. Copies of files that have not been digitized must be requested from the Court Clerk. Expunged, sealed, and juvenile records are not available for general public access.

The official hearing notice, summons, docket entry, or court order controls the date, time, location, assigned division or judge, and required appearance format.
