About the Hennepin County Jail
The Hennepin County Jail, officially the Adult Detention Center, is operated by the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) and serves as the primary intake and detention facility for the Minneapolis metro area. The facility processes approximately 40,000 admissions annually across two downtown Minneapolis locations: the Public Safety Facility (PSF) at 401 South 4th Avenue and the Minneapolis City Hall facility at 350 South 5th Street. Combined approved capacity stands at 839 beds.
The jail is under the command of Sheriff Dawanna Witt, who took office in January 2023 as the 29th Sheriff of Hennepin County. Day-to-day detention operations are managed by Major Troy Otto through the Detention Services Bureau. The facility serves over 40 law enforcement agencies, including the Minneapolis Police Department, Minnesota State Patrol, Metro Transit Police, and federal units such as the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force.
To reach the facility directly, call 612-348-5112. For inmate information, have the detainee's full legal name and date of birth ready when you call.
How to Post Bail at Hennepin County Jail
Bail at the Hennepin County Jail is cash-only when paid on-site. Payment must be made in person at the in-custody records window inside the Public Safety Facility at 401 S. 4th Avenue. Bring the exact amount - the facility cannot make change and there is no on-site ATM. You will need the detainee's full name, date of birth, and, if available, their case or warrant number.
For those who cannot cover the full bail amount, independent bonding agencies operate in Hennepin County. Jail staff are not permitted to recommend specific agencies. Bail paid through a bondsman does not go through the facility records window - contact the bonding agency directly for their process.
Bail amounts are listed on the official roster where set. A dash in the bail column means no bail has been assigned or the detainee is held without bail.
Visitation at Hennepin County Jail
All social visits at the ADC are conducted by video - there are no in-person contact visits. You must schedule through the Securus Technologies platform at least 24 hours in advance. Each session is 20 minutes. You may schedule up to one visit per day and three visits per week, up to two weeks out. Create a Securus account and wait for jail staff approval before booking.
On-site video visits are free and take place at the PSF in Room 235. Remote video visits from a home computer or smartphone cost $4.00 per 20-minute session through the Securus app.

Calling an Inmate at Hennepin County Jail
Phone and video calls from the ADC are managed by Securus Technologies. Calls are placed by the inmate from within the facility - you cannot call in directly to reach a detainee. To receive calls, set up a Securus account and fund it before expecting contact.
